When Nephi gave the small plates to Jacob he told him to write “for Christ’s sake, and for the sake of our people.” Elder Jeffrey Holland in his book, Christ and the New Covenant explains how proclaiming the gospel is for Christ’s sake also.  Simply, if we spread the gospel, those who accept it might stop sinning.  And that is a gift we can all give Christ, to stop sinning and to teach others to live righteously.
